Robert Leslie Askew (Les)
Died 5th February 1995
Age 59
Occupation Upholsterer
Lived in Windy Nook
Les my dad lived in Windy Nook with his wife Betty, they have 2 children Helen and Ian and 1
granddaughter Sarah.
My dad was taken from us after suffering from cancer, he fought his illness for 18th month with
great strength, and dignity and was an inspiration to us all.
Les my dad was such a wonderful person, we always knew he was there for us helping us in anyway he
could and always giving good advice, even though we didn't want to listen sometimes! we knew he was
always right.
He worked hard all his life making sure our family life was good, he died 6 weeks before his 60th
birthday and retirement. (What a waste, couldn't even enjoy the time off he deserved).
I can't really put into words how i feel about my dad he was just loved so much and i think about
him and miss him every day. Sarah his only grandchild wasn't quite 2 when he died and they have
both missed out on a lot, he adored her so much, he had so many plans for her and the days out they
were going to have was never ending.
I just wish he was still here just so he could see her now and see how wonderful she is, but i know
he'll be with us forever always protecting us.
Dad you are always in our thoughts and hearts we love and miss you so much xxxxxxxxx

Memories are a special house
We build inside ourselves
Where love and laughter linger,
Where all our past life dwells.
On holidays like Christmas
We can draw upon the store,
Reliving happy times
And feeling all that warmth once more.
Wherever we may travel,
This house is always there
To help to blend the old and new,
To build on...grow...and share.
This house can never get too full,
Just grow from floor to floor,
Because the joy of memories
Is always making more.
HAVE A GOOD WEEKEND EVERYONE
Our Lives changed, the very moment you passed away.
We couldn't stop it; there was nothing we could say.
You've touched our lives so deeply to a point you will never know,
We try to think about you when we are feeling down and low.
Sometimes when our day gets hard we will think about your beautiful smile
And if we listen hard enough we will hear your voice after a while.
It's you who give us a reason to go on with our day,
And now if we want to see you we'll bow our heads and pray.
We catch ourselves looking for you still, in the halls and at the front door,
But when we call your name there is no reply any more!
We never thought a day would come where we would be apart,
God has you in his keepings, we have you in our hearts.
Life will go on, but never will be the same,
Your beautiful smile is gone, but it will always remain.
You're our angel from up above.
You'll always be missed, but most importantly... loved.
Just one more minute, God, is all we ask- why can't you give them back;
It seems like such a simple task. We guess people are right when they say God only takes the best,
We know enough now that you're peacefully at rest.

You can shed tears that they are gone,
Or you can smile because they lived,
You can close your eyes and pray that they will come back,
Or you can open your eyes and see all that they have left.
Your heart can be empty because you can't see them
Or you can be full of the love that you shared,
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday,
Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.
You can remember them and only that they are gone
Or you can cherish the memory and let it live on,
You can cry and close your mind be empty and turn your back,
Or you can do what they would want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on.

I'm writing this from heaven, where I dwell with God above.
Where there's no more tears or sadness, there's just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy because I am out of sight
Remember that I am with you every morning, noon and night.
And I will stay beside you, every day, week and year
And when you're sad I'll still be there to wipe away your tears.
When you think of my life on earth and all those living years
Because your only human their bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry it does relieve the pain
Remember there wouldn't be flowers unless we first had rain.
I wish I could tell you of all that God has planned
But even if I were able to, you wouldn't understand.
When your going down the street and you've got me on your mind
I'm walking in your footsteps and only half a step behind.
And if you feel a gentle breeze or wind upon your face
Remember it's only me with a loving and soft embrace.

If you look for me at Christmas
you won't need to look very far
I won’t be here in heaven
I'll be right there where you are.
You may not be aware of me
amid the celebrations
You'll have to look beyond the tree
and all the decorations.
But if you take a moment
from your list of things to do
You’ll sense that I’m right there
Standing next to you.
You're the one I want to be with,
you're the reason that I came,
To say ‘All my love at Christmas’
as I’m whispering your name.
THIS TRIBUTE IS FOR FRIDAY BUSY DAY FOR ME
Have A Good Weekend Everyone
If I Knew
If I knew it would be the last time
That I'd see you fall asleep,
I would tuck you in more tightly
and pray the Lord, your soul to keep.
If I knew it would be the last time
that I see you walk out the door,
I would give you a hug and kiss
and call you back for one more.
If I knew it would be the last time
I'd hear your voice lifted up in praise,
I would video tape each action and word,
so I could play them back day after day.
If I knew it would be the last time,
I could spare an extra minute
to stop and say "I love you,"
instead of assuming you would KNOW I do.
If I knew it would be the last time
I would be there to share your day,
well I'm sure you'll have so many more,
so I can let just this one slip away.
For surely there's always tomorrow
to make up for an oversight,
and we always get a second chance
to make everything just right.
There will always be another day
to say "I love you,"
And certainly there's another chance to say
our "Anything I can do?"
But just in case I might be wrong,
and today is all I get,
I'd like to say how much I love you
and I hope we never forget.
Tomorrow is not promised to anyone,
young or old alike,
And today may be the last chance
you get to hold your loved one tight.
So if you're waiting for tomorrow,
why not do it today?
For if tomorrow never comes,
you'll surely regret the day,
That you didn't take that extra time
for a smile, a hug, or a kiss
and you were too busy to grant someone,
what turned out to be their one last wish.
So hold your loved ones close today,
and whisper in their ear,
Tell them how much you love them
and that you'll always hold them dear
Take time to say "I'm sorry,"
"Please forgive me," "Thank you," or "It's okay."
And if tomorrow never comes,
you'll have no regrets about today.

As people across the winter world tonight
Think of festivities and begin to prepare,
Christmas extends its all-enfolding light
Across the distance...something we can share.
You will think of loved ones, just the same as I,
Wonderful memories we know so well,
And you will see those same stars in your sky
And wish upon that brightest one that fell.
We shall remember our angels as we trim our tree,
One shining star upon the topmost bough;
We will hang wreaths of love that all may see --
Each night we glimpse beyond the hear and now.
And all the time that we must remain apart
We shall keep a candle burning in our heart.
Love and God Bless
Beyond the veil of tears,
Our sorrows will be healed,
And all the pain and suffering
That we have long concealed.
'Twill be a state of bliss,
Where love will know no bounds,
And every hour of every day
We'll hear such heavenly sounds.
No grief will there be known,
No heartache, no pain, no sorrow,
For loved ones will be there with us
To share that bright tomorrow.
Oh what a glad reunion,
Beyond the veil of tears,
Awaits all of us grieving
In just a few short years.
Love and God Bless
The Everlasting Light
Those we love must someday pass
Beyond our present sight;
They must leave us and the world we know
Without their radiant light.
But we know that, like a candle,
Their lovely light will shine
To brighten up another place,
More perfect, more divine;
And in the realm of heaven
Where they shine so warm and bright,
Our loved ones live forever more
In God's eternal light.

This Tribute Is For Friday Got Busy Day Tomorrow
Right now I'm in a different place
And though we seem apart
I'm closer than I ever was
... I'm there inside your heart
I'm with you when you greet each day
And while the sun shines bright
I'm there to share the sunsets, too
... I'm with you every night
I'm with you when the times are good
To share a laugh or two,
And if a tear should start to fall
... I'll still be there for you
And when that day arrives
That we no longer are apart,
I'll smile and hold you close to me
... Forever
If Roses grow in Heaven,
Lord please pick a bunch for me
Place them in my Loved One’s arms
And tell them they're from me
Tell them I love and miss them
And when they turns to smile
Place a kiss upon their cheeks
And hold them for awhile
Because remembering them is easy,
I do it every day
But there's an ache within my heart
Because I am missing them today...
Although death has separated us physically,
Faith and love have bound us eternally.
Though we cannot see you,
We know you are here.
Though we cannot touch you,
We feel the warmth of your smile,
As we begin a new chapter in our lives.
Today we pause to reflect upon
Those who have shaped our character,
Molded our spirits and touched our hearts.
May the lighting of this tribute be a
Reminder of the memories we have shared,
A representation of the everlasting
Impact you have made upon our lives.

Thursday
For Friday
Life is beautiful and serene
Though many things go wrong,
And you may hear much sadness in
Its strange and lovely song.
Though friends and loved ones die,
They're never really gone.
Nor more nor less than yesterday,
In you they will live on.
They will live on in you,
As everything you see,
Though it must vanish, will remain
Alive in memory.
Alive in what you think and feel
And dream and say and do,
For all who ever were still are
Upon this earth in you.
At times, you are a bright lit star sparkling in my sky,
seeming close enough to reach, still a bit too high.
Sometimes, your smile is in a moon full and hanging low,
I stretch my arms to touch you, but then you have to go.
Often, your inside rainbows helping the sky to heal,
I can never find you, but my heart knows you are real.
Your face I see in snowflakes blowing in the wind,
all the places you can go, never have an end.
Sometimes of an evening, your scent floats through my air,
then I feel your presence and know that you are there.
Occasionally, a glimpse of you comes before my eyes,
and I know that you are watching me and very much alive.
In each of these precious moments, I blow you a soft kiss,
And speak to you of the good times that I dearly miss.
My love for you will always live inside my mind and soul
Until our family joins and can once again be whole.
Love and God Bless
